Re: ROOTS REGGAE live at JOHN PEEL
John Peel (and other BBC) sessions were never intended for release. The ones that were eventually released needed the permission of every person present at the recording to release them (if they were deemed of interest to Strange Fruit that is). Strange Fruit itself was a pretty short lived project (end of the 1980s as I remember).
Some, like Black Roots, Aswad and Misty, were presumably licensed from the BBC. But the BBC remains reluctant to release most of its original material.
Keep hunting on the net. I picked up recordings from a New Age Steppers session a couple of years ago.

Dr. Pablo (Augustus) - Melodica
should be
Dr. Pablo (Pete Stroud) - Melodica
Pete played with Prince Far I on many recordings at ON-U Sound and called himself Dr Pablo as a kind of piss-take
Check the Dub Syndicate album 'North Of The River Thames' which was a dig at Augustus Pablo's album title 'East Of The River Nile'. All in good fun of course :o)
Dub On!

Is this the same guy that now makes a living by squawking over old riddims for all those cheap-ass, bogus 'previously unreleased' Augustus Pablo compilations?
Re: ROOTS REGGAE live at JOHN PEEL
lol
No, Pete Stroud gave up music many moons ago...
Give him a little credit

Right, sorry - and sorry to Dr. Pablo.
I'm just going on things that I've read on message boards over the years. Yaknow, along the lines of 'it's that Dr. Pablo jackass again!' whenever bogus A.Pablo releases are discovered...
Re: ROOTS REGGAE live at JOHN PEEL
Don't believe everything you read on message boards.

Should I believe you when you say this?

I'd say that rather than it being a piss-take he named himself Dr Pablo in honour of his musical hero, and the title of the album a nod to East Of The River Nile, rather than a dig at it, and also because Pete hailed from Bourne End, where the Thames meets the Wye

Loads of people 'play' melodica, many Pablo imitators and impersonators. I've met a few myself!

Go here for a listing - and you can even find downloads of recordings if you use the search facility on this wiki - and if you have any recordings of Mr Peel reggae sessions then (preferably embedded in the show) the people behind this site would love to hear from you
