Indeed.
How about whomever it was who did that album of reggaefied Led Zeppelin covers?
That would be DREAD ZEPPELIN
I worked in a City record (CD) store and built up a whole section for Reggae ( and one for FUNK and SOUL ) until I got transfered to a suburban store. The first thing the music manager said to me ( not HI or WELCOME ) she said WE DON'T HAVE A SECTION FOR REGGAE AND WE ARE NOT GOING TO....

As funny as it sounds, I think the first UB40 LP is not awful at all, these guys gave a new english view on reggae! Now, don't get me wrong, I'm not saying it can compete with JA reggae, but it's at least interesting! Their later albums did a harmful ,,favour'' to reggae.

My view on UB40:
First album good, second album has some good songs, rest cack.

Heh, that pretty much is the reggae section in my local music shop.
Last time I went in it was:
Bob Marley albums
Dubious Bob Marley compilations
Reggae covers albums
2-Tone Ska
A few best-ofs
Some hip-hop that somehow get filed under 'reggae'
I'm having the same problem with my local stores... only the used stores have any fluctuation of titles - but nearly always it's the same stuff... i end up doing mail order more often than not. Stores are too easily fooled by marketing and only bring in CRAP collections with scantily clad women on the cover. Why don't you find "Police and Thieves" and "War In A Babylon" in EVERY REGGAE SECTION??????

I actually kinda liked the Radiodread Easy Star All Stars LP. It was fun to hear Toots sing "Let Down." He actually brought something to the mix.
YMMV.

The stupid Christmas album RAS records released.

Easy Star Records have released some great modern reggae by the Black Seeds and John Brown's Body, but their Pink Floyd / Radiohead / Beatles projects leave me cold. I wish they would also re-release some older material again; their Linval Thompson collection was excellent.
I would vote for Shakedown: Marley Remixed, an album of techno versions of Marley tunes. I appreciate a good remix, but they took 99% of the reggae out of the songs and replaced it with techno, which to me is like radiation: I can't be exposed to it for more than 30 seconds before I start to fear for my testicles. When I was a radio DJ, I was sent a promo copy. Usually, I would repay the favour to record companies and always play at least one song from a promo, even if I didn't like the music. However, I was so outraged by Shakedown that I actually broke the CD in half with my bare hands.

Anything remixed to appeal to pillhead mugs can go f**k off, as far as I'm concerned.
