Yeah well I hear all of this stuff before I heard the soul...trying to rectify that but it is a hard task - the JA stuff is just transcendent...

Hip Hug (Hip Hug Her) Jackie Mittoo (case in point) and all of his covers of the meters stax volt stuff have a heap more soul...just my opinion of course.

What about the Owen Gray Studio 1 version of Stevie's "I Just Called to Say I Love You" - weird, semi-computerised backing, terrible song but something vaguely enjoyable about Owen's cut (except my copy is pretty warped).
