Although obviously I feel for his victims, as a writer I can't help but love this story.

you mean that he planted the rumour that he was poisoned in jail.... maybe, but i doubt it, that its the same ranking dread.

read victor headley's xcellent book "yardie", it is supposedly made on dread's life story

Are there any verified official records to confirm Mr R Dread REALLY died in Jail, or is that just another uconfirmed tale.

Somehow I don't believe R. Dread really mixed tunes like "Shut Me Mouth" himself, although he gets credit for it. It sounds like it was done by someone with a lot of mixing experience.

By the way if you like "Shut Me Mouth" you must check the Dennis Brown original "Break Down The Barriers".

The Art and Craft "Disco EP Showcase" with "Hard Times Leave Me Life" and "My Liza" sounds like it was just him voicing over dub plates, it's got that minimal flat sort of production, but pretty heavy duty all the same, haven't played it for a while but will dig it out soon!

I have that on yellow vinyl! A very rough copy but great reggae DJ sounds.

pretty interesting stuff. i just bought that ranking dread/massive dread reissue. killer stuff. ranking dread burns every track he touches. his best work in my opinion.
