Anybody familiar with these collections, available on Amazon and emusic. They are put out by a company known as Goldenlane Records, and seem to have some pretty obscure stuff on them. Any info would be a big help. Thanks!

I have them all as they were mega cheap a year or so ago.
I assume that they are bootleg or at least semi legit, but would be very happy to be proven wrong

Yeah, I listened to the samples, and they seem semi-legit, some pretty rare versions on those albums. The Augustus Pablo one has a ton of stuff I have never heard before, weird titles though. The compilation ones also have a lot of obscure sounding dubs/versions.

Somewhere on this board there is a thread on the Pablo comp that I started where the good and knowledgeable folks here have helpped identify many of the tracks as b sides to singles.
Your right about their stuff including albums I have never seen elsewhere

these are extremely dubious, they appear to just be collections of 7" b-sides from various producers, sometimes even using the original credits, put together as "dub albums" for the itunes/digital market.
the b-sides of a couple 7"s that i put out are included among these, and the producers don't know anything about them being available digitally.

Have to agree, especially given they were selling 50 odd tracks for 3 or 4 quid when they first came out I'd be staggered if they weren't bootleg, still as it was pointed out in another thread recently everyone in the reggae business except probably Island has been ripped off by someone at some point. Anyone who has been to the Caribbean knows bootleg cd's are on every other market stall, and not just one or two, hundreds of the things.
Still in the cases of Yabby, Prince Far I and Augustus you would hope that they were some of the good guys in the reggae business and that their surviving families deserved royalties
On the other hand what is the point of this music only existing on 7" that I have to pay collectors silly money for? The point of music is to be heard not to be controlled by jealous and rich collectors so in a way Goldenlane are setting the music free, I would most likely never have heard any of this music if they hadn't freed it.

I agree with you in many points Congo Bunny but I wouldn't say that Goldenlane is setting the music free. They are just downloading stuff, packaging it (false titles and horrible cover art) and resell it as something they own. I'd much rather then just download it directly myself and at least not help the thieves economically.
