Once again, I apologise if this subject has been discussed before (I don't think there's a forum search facility?), but I was hoping someone could help.

I believe that Trojan once again changed ownership relatively recently, the owner now being (I think) BMG.

Under the Sanctuary ownership, there was an active re-issue programme, with an informative website - http://www.trojanrecords.com/

Now not everyone would agree with what was being re-released, and what tracks were being included on compilations, but at least the catalogue was actively being worked, and we the customers were being kept informed.

So - does anyone know what is currently being done, and is there a new website planned?

Edit to say - I'm feeling a little silly now as I've just noticed that "search" button at the top of the forum......

Still can't find the answer, though....

My understanding is that BMG is essentially a licensing company and not interested in actually releasing the catalogue they own, however on a positive note they have now taken on a former Sanctuary employee to look after the catalogue so maybe there is some hope, although I doubt we'll ever see another reissue campaign like Sanctuary's.

Is the reissue gramme not now called "Boss Shots" its island, Trojan and Duke Reid stuff (I think not sure about the last one)

From what I've seen so far the re-issue program is really similar to the trojan/sancutary model of compilations with 40 tracks; 30 of which you already have and 10 of which are new.... it so crap I don't understand why they don't just re-release old albums with bonus material rather than spreading albums across several different compilations (which they did do very nicely with the recent Alton Ellis release)

It's all safe stuff too

Boss Shots is part of Universal Music, they have the rights to Island, Treasure Isle, Virgin Frontline and a few other catalogues, they did own Trojan as well having bought Sanctuary, but had to sell it to BMG when they bought most of EMI, due to competition regulations. Obviously Universal could license Trojan material from BMG, but I doubt we will see that or any more of the label spanning Marley and Perry releases we had when Universal owned it all.

Ahh thanks for theclarification, it seems I'm behind the curve.

heaven forbid cartels ran the music industry, if that happned then all music would cost the same where ever you went, it would be stupidly over priced and the music industry would try to fob us off with hundreds of boy bands who all likes and sounded the same, and every artist would have to give a cut of their money to Simon Cowell, I hate if that happned
