Righteous Flames

Post by florent »

Hi,

I found this tune last week: Righteous Flame - Revolution - 7" (Label : groundation)

I wanted to know more about this band, had a look on this board data base and it appears they backed winston jarret among others...

Does anyone know who sing on this song?

Any help much appreciated,

thanks

I don't know any songs of the Righteous Flames but I've read that Winston Jarret sang lead vocals for them.

Hope this helps...

Great tune ! With Carlton Barrett on drums.
Was also released as Winston Jarrett & The Righteous Flames "There Must Be a Revolution".

Yes fabroots, surely I can do that...first I don't have such a great musicain ear so I couldn't confirm 100% (W. Jarret voice is not so particular, is it?), then I do not have any deck where I currently live so I have to go to some friends and it's not everyday!
Anyway, thanks for the reply.

Just got an album by Winston Jarrett and the Righteous Flames from '89 called 'Jonestown,' good songs though the production isn't as rootsy as I would've liked; on the liner notes of the CD it says that Winston was just doing some odd jobs around the studios when another, more well-known singer (Joseph Hill?) mentioned he was an excellent singer in his own right and this led to the album being recorded. It seems that the Righteous Flames are the backing vocalists and may or may not have been consistent over Winton's recording career.

I like his album called Kingston Vibrations. It's not in this archive since it's from 1991 but I'm sure you can find some info of it on the internet. Worth buying imho ...

great harmony band, check out their early works featured in the sankofa compilation Rise up; songs like Water your garden, One heart or I was borned to be loved (lately sung by mutabaruka) are true classics. The young tree compilation (survival is the game) is also very good with albums from the seventies but to my peronnal tastes it's less good, although I usually prefer this era..greetings
