This thread prompted by another currently running (regarding the size of I&I reggae collection)
I wondered if there are people out there who haven't ever actually heard a record, or more specifically, a reggae record played on vinyl?
Just interested...

Hi!
Would be interesting to me, too. I think, there are more mp3 people out there than vinyl collectors.
Cheers

consider yourself lucky Litelet. Sometimes I wish I'd never heard one either.
I-Lion-Tafari: I am absolutely certain you are right that there are more mp3 people than vinyl nuts, especially if you venture outside the reggae enclave.
I once asked my 20-something postwoman to take more care of vinyl records being delivered to my door. She replied "What is vinyl?" So I showed her. She had NEVER seen one before and certainly had no idea how brittle they are (I showed her one that had been broken in the mail!)
Ah, the youth of today, etc...

Re: Reggae Vinyl - Anyone NEVER heard reggae on Vinyl?
Greetings Leggo!
Thanks to the mp3 i've got to know a whole bunch of new stuff, and what i really enjoy i try to search for it in it's original format... i do believe that most guys here are more on collecting mp3's, and mostly the "youths of today" as you said...
Anyways, i just wanted to say that i'm 23 and i've been collecting reggae since i was 15, right now i have about 130 cds, and 100 records between lp's/12's/10's/7's....(now i'm really investing on 45's and lp's) and all i am REALLY interested is in growing my ORIGINALS collection....
But since i probably don't have as much years as you might have in collecting reggae, and i was born on the computer age, the mp3's are my only salvation to get to know as much rare and good stuff as you do, and selecting only the ones i really enjoy to invest my money in it...
by the way, buying rare reggae records when outside the US, Europe or the UK is waaaaaaaaay more difficult than u can imagine...
All i am saying is that i'm not against the mp3 spreading, it helps a lot... but i just feel sorry for those who never had a chance to hear a original reggae record spinning on the turntable!
Respect & Blessings!

Ya true... international market has the advantage to centralise the record on few places... wich change the deal as you can now "look for" records... but it also make it that hard to get when you're from a country with a lower change...
I discovered allmost everything through records (not in the 70s...) and wonder how you discover your new stuff on mp3? For me basically, I go ina shop and plug the turntable...
How about you? I remember when trading Marley bootlegs that it was quite greedy and hard to get the stuff even digitaly copied, is the rare roots widespread now and easy to get?
Respects

leggo, I got mp3 too... but very few...
And sure I feel very very lucky...
With that crazy prices that rules now, I was first planning to record the new bought stuff and resell it, keeping only a CDR archive. But hopefully I never did it for the reason that every soundman know. Who feels it know it!

litelet, i'm not saying that rare roost is now widespread and easy to get, but certainly with the internet you can get a whole buch of info on some records and already figure out if it's good or not, according to your taste...
I do trade a lot of mp3 stuff with people from all over the globe, and just as you said, my biggest problem in buying records is my coutry's lower change and expensive dutys and taxes...
i wouldn't mind having all the mp3's i got in it's original format, i would rather much more if i could.... though there still some live bootlegs and others stuff that you simply can't get in any record store!

Re: Reggae Vinyl - Anyone NEVER heard reggae on Vinyl?
I think you forget that if people have more mp3 than vinyl is probably because they cant afford it or have no space or dont have access to them. EVERY music lover would love to have a huge collection of vinyls, dont you think? It´s a fact that nothing matches the sound and charm of vinyl and I think that most of the people know that, so be sure that if there are more mp3s that vinyl around is not by choice.
----ENJOY YOURSELF!----
Its later than you think
