Been to Holland a few times. Fantastic place. Where do you live?

6anbatte...

Captain Beefheart!! Now I am seriously jealous of that.

Far I and Congos, I can't begin to tell you how amazing that night was. Far I had so much presence and the thing I remember most abou tthe congos were the smiles, they were obviously having as much of a great time as we were. I also remember buying a bag of weed from a collieman all dressed in real african rasta garb. Great!

And you are right, I reckon the Beat were on that bill. Boy did we dance hard that night!

...and yes, it does sound like we were seeing different dates of the same tours.

Hi Leggo Rocker

I thought Beefheart might hit the spot.

You'll laugh at this though. I just didn't get it at the time!!!
We had actually gone to see the support band "Secret Oyster" (??). Who? Exactly.

I can vividly remember the gig, but when I look back it was totally wasted on me. I was just too young and pig ignorant to understand it.
Oh to be me now in that stupid youth's body then! Oh well.

Oh yes, don't we just wish we could have the head we have now in the body we had then. Just with more hair on it please....

And as for the Netherlands, I love the place. I have a Dutch step-mother and have worked for some Dutch racing teams (team press officer).

I have many fond memories from there (if a little cloudy).

It's a great place for reggae collectors as loads of original vinyl stuff ended up there.

In fact, I can feel a good excuse to go record buying in NL coming on...

I think Mark Twain said something like; "When I was 14 my father was an ignorant man. When I became 21 I was amazed at what he learnt in those 7 short years."

What I didn't know about everything (particularly music) then really wasn't worth knowing. Doh!

As you can see I am completely bitter and twisted about the Beefheart gig!

Massively soft spot for the Dutch. Genuinely believe Johan Cruyff is the best footballer there has ever been.
That team of the 70's was incredible.

Must get out there sometime to check out the coloured vinyl!!

6anbatte:

We were certainly on the same gig circuit. Your list has reminded me I saw the Jam, they were very good players of instrument - too good be punks!

I also saw the Selector too. And my Feelgood gig was with Wilko int he line up. They rocked.

And would you agree that old man Nelson from Be Bop Deluxe was making world beating guitar faces? I was right up at the very front about a foot away from him and his guitar faces had me transfixed! It was an exceptional gig though. No idea who was in support, can you recall? Who ever it was they would have been well and truely overshadowed by Be Bop's performance.

I also have the dubious claim to fame of being there when Bez fromt he Mondays almost died in a motorcycle accident a few years back. We were riding from Lincoln to Edinburgh in late October and he lost it on a bend just as we crossed into Scotland at a place called Carter Bar (I think). I was up front and realised he had gone missing. Imagine my horror when i turned back and saw first his mangled Triumph Daytona (a Triumph test bike!) and then him lying in the mud at the foot of a stone wall. I have never heard anyone scream like he screamed in agony that night. And I had to sneak his rather large stash bag out of the hospital for him... Sadly, I have never seen him since.

Or as I read on a bumper sticker in the USA once:

"Hire a teenager now while he still knows everything"

I love that, but my 14 year old daughter hates it...
