I have been a member and contributed to this forum in many guises since it was formed. I would like to say a big thankyou to Seb, Ron and everyone who I have had the pleasure to debate with. Rootsman Dave, dreadrecords, Fabroots; thankyou for your valuable knowlege. However, There are people who have joined this forum more recently who come over as frankly, self righteous and aggressive and appear to 'know it all'. It's just become far too serious. 'Remember a forum is a place where everyone is a star'....

Can I just put on record here that I know nothing about reggae music.

My knowledge is smaller than a pinhead compared to that of many on here. I mean this very sincerely.

However, my enthusiasm for reggae is HUGE, has been for 30 years now, and probably always will be.

But as you attract more readers you attract more types of people. That's life.

Don't let it upset you DorsetDread. Or as my teenage daughter likes to say, "So what? Just deal with it!"

I have to agree to some extent with Dorset Dread.

I have used this forum for nearly 2 years and have noticed that a lot of the threads have become more confrontational and self indulgent.

I have also noticed that a considerable number of the people who were posting threads when I first started visiting the site no longer appear and I can only assume that is due to this same reason.

I personally think it is sad that people, like Dorset Dread, feel the need to stop using the site.

I have said on previous occasions that it is a very few number people who portray this negative attitude in threads and that the vast majority are keen to share their wealth of knowledge without personal gain.

IMO, Dorset Dread you should just ignore the negativity and look at the positive aspects of the site.

It is by far the best site of its kind with so much useful information in an easy to search format.

What other site could you spend hours just looking at album covers.

Hope you change your mind Dorset Dread. After all if we all took this approach the site would eventually cease to exist.

Rootsman, you have a point.

But maybe the members who feel that the quality of posts has dropped should take action in a more positive manner. They should post more topics and replies. Which I think is what Lion is saying...

Although Pride is one of the seven deadly sins, I don't think a little self indulgence is such a huge problem. And anyone living in the so-called civilised world must be pretty used to it by now!

However, I REALLY don't like confrontation and rudeness on Forums. But sadly it tends to be a feature of almost any Forum I have ever used, anywhere, in any subject, so I guess it's going to be very hard to avoid it here too. Having said that, I haven't noticed a great deal of it here.

According to my profile, I first registered for this site back in September 2005, a relative newbie. So I guess maybe I missed the really 'good' days of the Forum. Prior to registering, I only used to visit the database to do my record collecting homeowrk.

Dont do the same mistake as those people do... taking it too personaly! Thats why they feel agressed, because for an unknown reason, they are deeply personnaly touched by any critic, even constructive.

I had dis problem many time when selling on ebay. Some mates think that because they dont have to look you in the eyes, thay can behaviour like beasts. I keep cool and just give an humble warn, most of the time they apologises and never do it again, if not, they are excluded from future sales.
Hopefully like this I can enjoy many constructive relationships with other reggae lovers out of this agressive way of communicating... Bob give you the tip to work it out: take it easy, got to take it easy!

thanks for your comment, me too i miss some motivation for participe in this forum, too much new people are agressive or want to be "the one who know more that the others" (me too i can use google lol), some use this forum for make their religion propaganda, some come just for answer "yes i have but i dont share" when you open a topic for asking about sharing (shut up then), some make 1 million of topics about "whats the best thing" (im very sorry, i was the first starting a topic as it, now i regret!)...
It was and its still a great site but the forum being kiddy and boring, as our world! Now i come just for take some infos.
Peace to all intelligent and kool people who dont take big head and stay easy...

Litelet has made good points. And text of any kind, letters, emails, sms, and of course forum posts are all too easy to misinterpret or misunderstand.

Often you say one thing and it is taken in a way you didn't mean, because there is no facial expression or intonation to back up what you are saying.

But I must admit if this place became a forum for slagging each other off all the time I would also leave.

hope yu stay brother i tink all we who love this music and wants to learn more about this wonderfull music will stay cause the site is unique and simple.
for me i only answer to topics dat talk about music,dats what i'm about it has been a part of me life for about 20 years for the rest just let it pass.
fe shure i notice deh's a lot of topics dat i don't care about.
but anyway i have met a lot of guys dat i have learn alot and trade some realy cool stuff dat i never though i would find.the web makes the world so small.I Give tanks to Roots Archives dat helps me in many ways.
