(super great RA is finally back, i've been waiting for a long time, big up seb!)
Greetings
Hey, i was searching for more instrumental ska in deep minor key. So i used discogs and listenned full catalog from blue beat, studio one, treasure isle, top a deck, beverleys (so there are many more labels of course, but they are the most important and it gives a good view on the entire production); and i've been surprised, to realise minor key is not only rare but arrive very lately; more than that i found a strange detail....
- i didnt find any ska in minor key before 64, like nothing at all.
- i found 2-3 tunes in minor key from don drummond from 1964
- i then found some more tunes from 65 and after (and which i already have... baba brooks, prince buster etc..)
I'm not pretending anything, as i didn't listen the entire production of ska, which could take very long; but already by scanning the important labels, it seems obvious that instrumental ska is rare at the beginning, and minor key arrive very late (and is still rare). More than that it seems that Don Drummond could have been the one initating this kind of deep vibes... And honnestly it doesn't sound crazy at all... I know when Drummond or McCook arrived in bands, studios, and sessions, they brought a lot, we know it already.
Once again it just assumption here, but a guided one. Did some of you already notice that? did some of you already dig the subject?
