High Times label

Post by Litelet »

Hi bredrins...

Any of you have informations about the High Times label? The usually use a red label for their 7". They released (or rereleased) crucial tunes like the Hot Rocks - Blackman time, Bada, bada...

or like Rising son - Forgive dem jah

It seems they released stuff only in 1982, at least all pressings I saw... which is strange...The have good quality chunes, many early dancehall riddims... thats why Id love to learn more about it, and having a discography if somebody got many...!!

Thanks - Litelet

High Times is the label & recordshop by Chinna Earl Smith at the Kingston Mall.
They recorded Frankie Paul first album Give the youth a change.
Roots Archive only showcase the rerelease on Freedom sound/Classic.

Here some titels of High Times records.
Donovan Joseph - Sounds Of Many Colours [198X]
Earl Chinna Smith - Dub It [1983]
Earl Zero - Visions Of Love [1979]
Frankie Paul - Give The Youth A Chance [1982]
Freddie McGregor - FM [197X]
Gladiators - Babylon Street [1982]
Heptones - Wonderful World With The Heptones [197X-8X]
Mutabaruka - Check It ! [1983]
Various Artists - High Times All Stars Explosion [1985]

Chinna & Freedom sound work close together.

yeah man great stuff from the 80's but you really have to watch out for the 90's output...hate to say anything bad about Chinna (cause he is so talented and love his productions) but I really don't care for the High Times music he produced or co-produced from late late 80's and on...
