Re: reggae in california?
I use to follow the concert scene all the time for a years but the same artist come to San Diego almost every year which I've seen several times already:
Gregory, Steel Pulse, Itals, Wailing Souls, Toots & Maytals, Mikey Dread, Burning Spear, Bunny Wailer, Don Carlos, Barrington Levy, Eek a Mouse, Freddie McGregor, Yellowman and few others. One concert I missed out was Linval Thompson wish I regret.
I use to envy the LA area in the 90's when all the new dancehall artists went there. I actually use to go up there to watch concerts.
San Diego is definitely a roots town. Lot of rub a dub style fans for sure. I see them on ebay lot too.

Mick D, I have not seen Irael Vibration at the Ragga Muffins Festival in a few years, not in Santa Cruz nor in San Francisco.

hi matty, i saw israel vibration at the raggmuffin in 2005 (sf). they also played at the independent in 2005 and 2006. sign up for the independent e-mail list. they get a lot of good reggae shows if you are willing to make the drive.

Re: reggae in california?
they were just here in sd a few months ago...but they cut the show kinda early due to the fact that they are getting old and its hard to hold themselves up for a long period of time. by the way they looked i doubt they are gonna be touring anymore.

Two good shows at the Catalyst here in Santa Cruz, CA next month:
Gregory Issacs (23 May)
Mikey Dread (26 May)
I think the capacity there is maybe 300 people, to give an idea of the size of the club.
I've seen Gregory Issacs there before, but that was probably 15 years ago. My fault, not his. He comes this way regularly.
