Re: What Do Rastas Think About Jesus Christ ?
I believe that some of the Rasta belief stems from the fact that both Jesus and Haile Selassie come from the line of King David. Haile Selassie's lineage was cut off from the Ethiopian throne and deposed. He re-instated the line of King David as rulers of Ethiopia. David was Jehovah's favorite and pleased Him and was set up to be the person who He chose as king over Israel. David's son was Solomon who is supposed to have had a child with the Queen of Sheba. Also, their child saw that Solomon was starting to waver away from his beliefs (read the great book of Ecclesiates where Solomon questions the meaning of life and states that he has tried everything under the sun to find meaning) and is supposed to have taken the Ark of the Covenant away from Israel and brought it to Africa in order to honor it and not let it be defiled. Some believe that is how the Beta israel black Jews came to be----they are descendants of the people who sought to bring the Ark of the Covenant out of Israel and protect the sacred bond between Jehovah and man.
If all these ideas are true both Jesus and Haile Selassie would be heirs of King David--but only Jesus ever claimed to be God's only begotten Son. He also fulfilled a long list of Jewish prophecy which required that he be made a living sacrifice that parallelled the sacrificial lambs used up until this point. His story is quite different than that of Emperor Selassie. It would seem that the beliefs around Emperor Selassie point to the fact that he is the rightful leader of Jehovah's chosen people. Whereas, Jesus was offered Kingdoms on earth as a temptation by Satan but refused them to set up a spiritual kingdom/following as God's Son (not God's chosen King).

Instead of me going on about tehe similarities and differences betwwen Christ and Selassie. It makes more sense to leave the following link to Selassie's speeches:
http://www.rastaites.com/speeches/speeches.html
You can compare these to the words of Jesus in the Bible. Selassie was a spiritual, inspiring leader. His relationship to his people and God come through in every word. His speeches center arounfd the betterment of his people and the world. They are quite different from the parables and meditations of Christ.

I am not a Rasta, but I have read that some Rastafarian sects believe that Haile Sellassie I and Jesus Christ are in fact the same person. That is, Jesus Christ being Haile Sellassie I and not the other way around. Maybe I misunderstood, so please correct me if what I say is not true. The sect I am referring to is the Twelve Tribes of Israel.

It is common for many Rastafarians to refer to Selassie as Jesus Christ second coming. Many Rastas believe that Jesus and Selassie are different incarnations of the same being.
