Provided the 7" single has the big hole in the middle you can play off centre pressings by taking the plastic spindle off the turntable and placing the record where the groves are actually centred. This works ok because most turntable mats will hold the record in position without a spindle.

leggo,
talkin bout floods, i forgot to mention that 1year ago i had my collection of reggae vinyl in my closet which is near the bathroom, still in cases obviously. i came home from work. the whole bathroom was flooded, including my closet with my records, my toilet totally backed up water. when i seen the devestation, the first thing that came to mind was my records. i dove in for them, with disbelief and mad concern. i opened them all up and the water seeped in jus a little bit in the 12" cases. good thing i had plastic covers covering each record, otherwise it would have been it. all my LP's, 12" made it. my 7" 45s case on the other hand, which really has precious gems as well, is not have a rubber lining, it has a felt lining instead. so they got more wet than the rest, but i also had plastic covers for them. so none of them got damaged, excepet for the 45s that didn't have plastic covers, just the paper sleeves. the one with paper sleeves only were just 90s and 2000 dancehall, just crap music i don't care about.i just thank the almighty for sparing my records. i just had to blowdry all my cases and dry them out. i was lucky. now the warping issue. i just don't seem to have any luck. these records are my life, there a part of me for real. as all you vinyl collectors feel the same.

SOMEWHERE on the web I remember reading something about exactly what temperatures and time spans to use in de-warping. I have no idea where, nor if the info was even accurate.
For me, the best remedy for warped records is still - buy another copy! Sad but true.

so far couting how many that i got warped, since doing an inventory on all of them, not done with my 7" 45s, so far so good. as far as 12" i found my 12" general plough- golden chalice (dynamic saints) disco is warped, still playable, but its pretty mean warp. LP, besides the billy boyo/ little harry dj clash vol. 2, i found my little john- english woman (gorgon)LP is warped slightly medium iguess. still playable. its just getting me angry to see these in this condition, its reall getting me upset, i'm exhausted of looking through all this vinyl, but i just need to know how much damage there was in total. i did notice a type of relations to these warps. it seemed to warp more thicker acetate records than the thin ones for some reason, maybe could be just random and so happend to warp the thick ones by chance. let y'all know if it touched more of the rare gems.

Re: fixing rare and pricelss "warped" vinyl records
is it okay to tightly pack records in a flight case, or will they warp, or is it supposed to be loose? is there a correct way for storage that i should know. because from the first i heard it was best to do it that way to prevent warp, then i hear, if its too tight it'll, which one's true. too much hearsay, jus want to know so i won't have to worry about bigger trouble down the road, as my records have been getting hinto trouble.
please help a concerned record collector.

Pack them tight enough so they stand upright, but not so tight that they are squeezed in and are too difficult to get in and out.
Put the LP sized card spacers you get in record mailers between every 10 or 15 records, put two more each end of the stack. This'll help keep them nice and upright.
Keep them away from all sources of heat, including direct sun.
The REALLY serious record collectors, you know the type where money is not restricted, they have special temperature and humidity controlled rooms to keep the vinyl in.

Mighty Z, thanks for relaying your theory. That makes sense. Someone should invent a vinyl-warping-fixer. You'd make a killing.
I had a few 12" with the "hole too small", (no pun intended..LOL) meaning the hole in the middle of the album. I found a screwdriver just a tad bigger, gave it a few twirls, and problem was solved!

I had the hole too small (again no pun intended) problem on last weekend doing a set at leggorockers party - but this time it was a disc with a 'big centre hole!' my prized 7" Studio One of Larry and Alvin 'Your Love' wouldn't fit on the adaptor for leggorockers decks! I could have tried Rob's place it in the right place without an adaptor idea, but I wouldn't want to try that for the first time 'live' as it were!
