Re: Best Sound System
Best Sound Systems Long Gone.
New music today not the same as the pre digital years prior to 1985.
You can only experience once the excitement and atmosphere created from hearing a new song on a sound system for the very first time.
I am only referring to the years 80-85 which is when I spent many a night in and around London at a sound system clash or Blues Party. It was an incredible priod in time an a fantastic experience.
The competition was intense and the vibe incredible. It was something you had to experience to appreciate. You just cannot recreate that by playing old tracks many years later.
Not to say there are no good sound systems about today, there are probably many.
But the early 80`s were my decade and I don`t think it got any better than back then.
Dave.

Re: Best Sound System
I have to agree with Dave. I went to sound systems and blues dances in the late 70s early 80s and they rocked. I am not so turned on by a bunch of digital tracks.
As for not being able to recreate the vibe by 'playing old tracks' I'm not so sure. MightyZ and I have been getting a great vibe going by playing old tracks at our recent gigs. I'm not pretending for one minute to be Jah Shaka but the records themselves are so good they can still rip up the floor all by themselves!
Interestingly, it isn't just guys like me born in the 60s that like this stuff, it's youths too. They've been coming up to us at gigs amazed by the sound they've heard. 'Vintage' reggae still has the ability to reach deep into people and do things to them they didn't know could be done!
If you live in the South of England, why not come along to one of our gigs?
We're playing again this Thursday at the Fawcett Inn, Portsmouth, and have two more gigs in Portsmouth in November (this time we've secured the sought after Friday night slots so we must be going up the league table!)

Bodyguard were great, as was Metromedia and Jaro. Waggy T and more. All those early eighties sounds were great and I still enjoy listening to there cassettes.

Re: Best Sound System
This days sound clash business has taken over. No Deejays chatting on the sound but a variety of dubplates. Only King Sturgav and sometimes Downbeat have live artist on their sound.
Thanks Goodness for all the cassettes, coz i get to listen to Volcano, Jaro and others with foundation artist.
