Lester Lewis

Post by todd »

I have a two-sided seven inch single on Attack by Lester Lewis. Side A is Niah Dread and side B is I Man Free. I don't find him listed in Roots Archives and there was one previous mention of this 45 in an earlier thread. Does anybody know anything about him or of any other releases? These two songs are great. Thanks

Amazing you ask about him [at this time] - I have the Attack single you mention and it is great! I also just found those two songs on a Trojan comp called Tight Rock Volume 1 - which is not listed here.

So the other day I typed in Lester Lewis in Google and look what came up!! It's gotta be him...

Then there this:

Check out the sound samples from his 'No Boundaries' CD found on the bottom of the website - two of the samples sound pretty darn good.

Wild stuff knowing guys like this are still around.

That is wild. You're right, it must be him. It says he got started in '76, which is when the Attack single is dated. Thanks for the link. I've tried to find other singles on ebay, but no luck so far.

i think he was a part of a vocal group at som point, forgotten which

but, true, that's a nice mellow roots effort

I just listened to one song by him called "So Many Bridges To Cross". It is on Dynamic label uk press 7" from 1977, produced by Barry Biggs. Quite a nice roots tune.

"Niah Dread": I can't believe I'm reading this thread. Here is how I found out about it: a guy was sending rare tracks on a tape (20" samples) for auction, many years ago. Record sold for too many dollars, but I couldn't help but hunt for this record, the first 20" being so strong, and, indeed, Barrett at the drums. After many years, I found the 7" on ebay, and confirm the whole track is great! And I did google Lester Lewis, and I did find the gospel connection and future path that Lester Lewis took!!!!
