Throw down your gun - Reggae music playing in aid of peace

I am so sickened by the spread of gun violence in England right now I have decided to take some action.

You may live in a city or country where this kind of stuff is normal but for us here in England it is relatively new. Sure, we've had killings for a long time but this is on a scale not seen before and the fact that it is mainly involving teenage boys is the most disturbing part.

Last night at the latest MightyZ and the AllStars / Leggo Rocker's Hi Fi gig I discussed the possibility of organising some kind of event against guns.

My first idea was to have some kind of big dance / gig event in England somewhere to try and get reggae's message of peace and freedom out there and to highlight and campaign against the gun problem.

But on the long drive home through the night I started to wonder if the even could be mirrored in other areas where there is a similar problem, with reggae DJs, radio stations and bands running simultaneous events. Even if it just means some of you guys out there just play some reggae on your own players at home in recognition of the event on the day.

Maybe I am being hopelessly ambitious here but people are dying and mothers and fathers are crying and I just can't stand by and watch without taking a stand.

And now I get home and see the horrible news about Lucky Dube being gunned down in front of his son and that just makes me more determined to do this.

Anyone want to help?

I live in Sydney but am English & have been appalled reading about the recent shootings - the beginning of a gun culture is a terrible prospect.
Any attempt to voice such concerns, to spread good vibes & generally nice up the community is very welcome.

If I can do anything to help from down here I'm in!!

Sorry Leggo but guns are not your problem but people pulling triggers is. In fact here in the states there is plenty of research that demonstrates that in places where you don't have guns you have more gun crime, places where people have permits to own a fire arm less gun crime. The problem is the lawless people who will get a gun regardless of the legailty and terrorize the nation for their own benefit. But a concert for peace I am all for. Jah Bless.

I think the hip-hop culture/vulture has fooled the youth into thinking they are gangsters and love and wisdom are rejected for girls and money. Muderous stlye Imagine thinking its acceptable to gun down your brother or sister for dunza FIRE BURN!

EZ I don't want this thread hijacked into a pro-gun vs anti-gun discussion. I should point out that I am a licensed gun owner. I keep shotguns for sport, I shoot clays, ONLY. Nothing living is in danger from me and my gun.

What I am talking about here is not guns, but the use of them in gang war and robbery. I am especially disturbed by the fact that the use of these guns is becoming a teenage thing in the UK.
