Reggae in China

Post by Rasteddy »

Ites,
I go to china soon for 3 months and i was wondering if there are any places where i can find some nice dance or LPs?
I will be staying most of the time in the East, close to nanjing and shangai, and i will spend some days in bejing also.

Everybody loves reggae!

From what I saw in a month in Taipei, they're not really into reggae but there's a lot to enjoy nonetheless. Have a nice trip!

When I was running my online radio station China was well up there in the list of countries listening to the feed. So someone in China does like reggae!

There are some bars in Beijing that play, or even are dedicated to, reggae. I remember reading about them somewhere.

I've read some article a while back about this but forgot the exact details but came up with this on google:

A bar in Beijing called "Together."

I remember reading a piece about how Shanghai is the new New York and has a ton of various clubs dedicated to particular music genres, so I'm sure Shanghai has some venue (since it's literally the place to be!).

Good luck in your journeys. China is has its pluses and minuses (I went during SARS!...and survived!), but I never got a chance to get a taste of the local nightlife since I was in remote areas near Guangzhou (Xunhui, Taishan, etc) in addition to Macau (must see for the gambling economy and Portugese influence) and Hong Kong (where you can drink beer on the street after they literally crack it open for you at the 7-11).

Happy travels!

Check out the area around Nanjing University: must be some student bars there that play reggae. Quite a lot of African students there you see.

i agree with alhazred that Taipei is a wondrous place, yet the Taiwanese seem not to have much reggae on the go. Hey didnt ranking trevor put a post about reggae in hong kong a while back?
