8 Track Recorder

I'm looking for a simple(I don't wanna read the manual), inexpensive (under $750 if possible)8 track recorder. I used to have a Boss BR-8 which was both simple and inexpensive, but I didn't like the sound it imparted to my recordings, or the zip disc memory. A few years ago I bought a Yamaha 16 track recorder from a friend, but it was just way too complex for an amateur like myself. I don't need much, but built in effects would be nice. Please, I would appreciate any suggestions.

Acetone and mr mountain, how would you rate your Tascam products? Any particular thing you like, anything you dislike? The Tascam DP-02 seems to be exactly what I am looking for. I'll do some more looking and hopefully come across some reviews.

I-Lion Tafari, for the most part I liked the BR-8. I don't quite know how to explain it, but the instruments just sounded different through the unit, even "clean" with no effects. Also, you could only apply the same rate of reverb and delay for all the tracks, and only control one at a time through the menu. This was seven or eight years ago, so the newer models might be(and probably are) much better, but I just want to try something different.

Thx a lot for explaining. Think, I got the point. It´s important that instruments keep their natural character during the recording process. Not cool when they sound too clean / artificial.

my Tascam is an 8-Track cassette machine. you're probably looking for a hard-disk recording machine, right?

I just have it stuffed in a closet in case I need to play back any of my eight track recordings.

i got it not long before I started discovering the joys of computer based recording.
It is an OK machine - I was happy enough with it back then. No built in effects though...

A cassette machine would be pretty cool actually, but yeah, I want a hard drive workstation(even though I never use all of the features). I think I found the one I want. It's nice, simple, looks easy to use, and best of all, it's right there in my price range.

i thought of getting myself a usb mixer with 16 channels or so, then just plug it to the pc and record on a tape, run from tape back to pc , voice it, master it and after dat track should be finished
