Midnite is the future of roots reggae, in my opinion.

I guess the future of reggae music is what we see right now. Different styles. you have some people like luciano, jah cure and so on that offer the modern roots style.

you contemporary roots like midnite, groundation

Dub has now become something like an ambiente music.

you some lovers style like beres hammond, glen washington

and pure dancehall like bounty killer, beenie man

commercial reggae (or dancehall): shaggy, sean paul.

That means to me, that there is a style for every taste. Some people don't like roots, but they love dancehall. And I guess most people in that forum don't like dancehall, I guess most of them don't even like modern roots but they are addicted to the classic roots style

"most of them don't even like modern roots" mm
For me if the modern roots band sing as rockers as the old reggae singers does i can like their stuff, the old time dont mean the best time everytime, band as The Amharic, Dread Ashanti, Groundation, or singers as Vivian Jones give me exactly same vibes. But once the singers use distording voices and make strange noises with their mouths as a particular style i leave the place quickly!
Then i think by my particular taste that often the prob is not if they are old or new bands/singers but how they sing...

groundation, dread ashanti are like John Public said contemporary Roots.

When we talk about modern roots we have to mention names like garnet silk, morgan heritage, luciano... even some dj's like capleton and sizzla entered modern roots territory

Ok Jahrose, but the question are not "WHO will be the future of the reggae?", no more "WHEN the oldschool roots will stop forever?"
If you ask what is the FUTURE of the reggae then the question speak about MODERNITY for every styles and bands, cause the "old school roots" is still not dead and will be a part of this future too, i answer exactly to the question...
Or ask: "what is the future EVOLUTION of the reggae?"...
Why considere some styles more "future" that anothers?? Till the old school roots disappear for ever i considere it the past, the present AND the future of reggae!

The Future of Reggae CAN NOT AND WILL NOT Depend on one person alone. I hope the future of reggae will be some good musicians who still write conscious lyrics. To know the future of Reggae you have to be (just to quote peter tosh) a culture man and look in to your crystal ball.

people like busy signal , idonia , vibez kartel , bling dog , jr.gong and others pon de dancehall flavor !!

all those roots band (midnite, groundnation, john brown body and others) have nothing new to offer...it's not even sound like a real jamaican muzik....
