Yardie-Reggae.com presents itself

Post by Yardie »

Dear Members and Visitors,

I'm here to proudly and modestly present to your kind attention my little labour of love, http://www.yardie-reggae.com/index.htm

As a growing collector and lover, as you are, of Reggae music I decided one day to write down some comments on my CDs to be able to remember which were my preferred tracks on that particular set. One day I found out that an excel file was not enough and therefore I started the website.

Since the opening in 2007 I collect my comments about my Reggae CDs on that site.

Being involved with my daily work (which is not music), the site grow up with the main intention to inform the newcomers, as I was when I found out that of course Reggae is not only Bob. I know you understand what I am talking about. So my first approach, and still is, was on talking about the historical details about that artist and that particular release. I think that the historical approach is unmissable: once you get the details about the environment you have some more chance to understand why that particular set is so important. Then of course there is the “feeling” side. On that side my comments are often poor, I know. But I am trying to be more explicit as the collection grows.

I know that most of you are vinyl collectors, but please consider that some of us for different reasons are not able to collect them. Therefore CDs are the only way to file our beloved music. A couple of years ago I was dancing in a “street party” in Kensington (a small village south of Long Bay, Portland, JA), and trust me about the fact that no vinyl was spinning. Two CD players, a small mixer and two huge speakers towers were enough to make it one of the best parties I have ever attended in Jamaica. I know that on vinyl it sounds better, but at the end it's the “vibes” that matter.

The site also presents some informations about Rastafari, H.I.M., M. M. Garvey, L..P. Howell, History of Jamaica, History of (Jamaican) Music, my books and DVDs and other things.

I would be very glad if you mind to expess your opinions through my “Guestbook” page.
And please remember that at the end our efforts are intended not only to spread the true meaning of the Jamaican music, but also to spread a peaceful message in this world.

Thank you all for visiting http://www.yardie-reggae.com/index.htm

Nice one, Yardie!

A small advice though ... you should really make the site dynamic. It will mean **much less** work for you in the future. If someone could help you with the PHP and such. In that way you can focus even more on just writing reviews than having to update HTML-pages.

GREAT work, Yardie!
i like the fact that you are commenting on/reviewing CD's/collections that are readily available - making my chances of getting a copy of something with a great review easier for me...
i agree with Leggo on the "white text/black back" comment, but as a whole - GREAT effort! i will bookmark...
level vibes to ALL!

Dear Leggo and Marky,

thank you very much for your kind words about the site.
Talking about the "white on black" issue, well, probably you are right.
But, since the site is not PHP as kalcidis pointed out, it would be quite a long work to change the background color of all the pages. Do you think that it should be done?
