Wood For My Fire melodica

Post by I-Defenda »

Greetings one and all,

On the flip side of the 'Wood For My Fire' 7inch (by Black Uhuru) is a melodica version to the same riddim track

Who is the melodica player? Does not sound like Augustus Pablo to me.

I've seen somewhere that Johnny Osbourne plays the harmonica on this one ...

Greetings one and all,

thank you for the reactions.

The copy of my 7inch is on D.E.B. music (yellow label, Jamaican pressing).
Does the re-release have the same melodica (or harmonica) version on the b-side?

i think i have it on emmuael label and its certainly not on that nor on the four star (might be five star?) showcase that i originally heard the track on.

i have both the original on a green D.E.B. music label with a dub cut on the b-side as well as the emmanuel label reissue which has a different dub from the original 7", but i haven't heard those in a while to further confirm one or both have the melodica in dub.

there are (at least) two 70s DEB presses..

one with a melodica (nothing great), one with a proper dub (great (jammys?) version).. (both label designs are the same from what i remember but one is green one is yellow)

the emmanuel reissue has a different version than the DEB 7" & it doesnt start normally.. may be from a butchered 12"
