Surprisingly, I don't think I've ever heard anything by Winston McAnuff. Someone school me.

guys! It's an absolute must. One of my favourite singers. Two crucial albums, both reedited by Makasoound : What de man a deal with, and, pick hits to click. Pick hits was produces by joe gibbs, it features some very very deep tracks such as Ugly days and Kushy I. What de man a deal with is produced by Tommy Cowan and features great musicians, and it's a pure killer, full on energy and rightful sounds.
His voice is like thunder, that's why is nickname is Electric Dread.
Also today you can check his works with Makasound featuring some french musicians from other genres (Java, M,etc.)), 2 albums in a different style but of great quality and the last one, Nostradamus is back to the reggae genre, produced by Clive Hunt, feat. Horsmemouth and more. It's a very good an worthy album although of course it's the same as in the golden era.. How could it be ?
Conclusion : go on Makasound's site and buy (with your eyes closed) his two first LPs and if curious his recent works. But his third album Electric Dread is not a must, it's nice, but the drums are digital...
Last but not least, you can find a good compilation, still from Makasound, that has some great tracks you can't find in any of those albums, from the 80' and 90' but again of great quality.
So you have a whole range to discover !!!
And the personnal side I remember he was a friend of Hugh Mundell and started auditions with him, and he had more difficulties to launch his carrier than Hugh. He now lives in Paris, which explains his connection with the french label and musicians. He has a son who plays the drum, well all that information you'll have on the booklets along with the lyrics.
So enjoy this great and unique roots artist.

Thanks for the info benjamin and all. Wow, I didn't know he wrote Malcolm X, that's an achievement. I'll check him out.

What about Matthew McAnuff? Is that his son? Anyone know?
I've been listening to the Chinna Smith & Idrens Inna De Yard Vol. 2. It is definitely sweet and nice.
There's a stand out tune on there by Matthew McAnuff. Id' never heard of him.
Also highlights, acoustic, backyard (but w/drum and bass etc.) of Harvest Uptown, Famine Downtown and Kiddus I doing a wicked wicked stripped down slowed down version of Graduation in Zion!
