no bones for the dogs

anyone know the deal with this pressure sounds release as far as how it matches up with the original joe gibbs dub albums, african dub 1-4, majestic dub, etc.?

I guess what I mean is, if you already have the above, is it worth getting No Bones for the Dogs as well. I assume there is not a lot of overlap?

No overlap at all with African Dub 1-3, I think. Not sure about overlap with 4 and Majestic though...

Well worth getting regardless, I'd say. Even if Side 4 sounds like ET was deliberately making everything sound as out-of-tune as possible!

It is very difficult to overcome the idea that old albums are the real deal and the compilations are not as strong. Partly this is down to habit. Like every utha reggae acolyte I am used to hearing particular tracks in a particular way - sometimes you even miss the crackles of old vinnil. But a lotta dub albums was just thrown together by the producer: let's put out a dub album, what tracks yuh got? Not all recorded at the same session, many are just a case of getting a little more out of a riddim than just a vocal, DJ cut and a coupla versions; some dub albums is more than that still, but not all. Inna lotta respects the compilations can be better. "No Bones" is a great collection that for me, shows how Mr Gibson/ET's dub sound developed, from the basic dubbed-up instrumentals to the truly wild stuff at the end with ET mashing up creation. It ain't like the African Dubs, nor Dub Serial or whatever 'original' album you want to name. But it does it in a different way and it sounds realy strong strong.

Only 3 tracks in and already I have to say this is a must-buy.

"I Stand Accused" is the dub cut to Gregory's "Babylon Too Rough" and is a total wall-shaker!

Worrying that, innit? Lotsa times I've played records and thought: "Have I really played this B4?" - recent one was a Delano Stewart album on Trojan - sure I'd played it when I got it centuries ago and didn't think anything of it. Then when I checked it recently, there's one killer tune. Which is one more than some albums!!

Worse is when you bid on ebay and then realise you already got the tune. Think it's called a senior moment. Or pure stupidness.

Thanks for the recs and clarification. I'm enjoying it right now. Very nice indeed, though I had no doubt it would be, just didn't want to be buying something I really already had elsewhere. I agree that dub of babylon too rough is deep as hell.
