drummer lloyd tinleg adams

Post by fadel diagne »

hi guys!jahidren query about drummer hugh malcom has also prompted another question for me as regards another great but yet unspoken hero of reggae drumming:lloyd"tinleg"adams who took the drums chores in the upsetters before carly barrett.most of his licks mostly the sharp and acute sound of his snare drum are oftentimes mistaken with that of carly barrett.i heard on the 6th bob annual edition of the "reggae beat"hosted by roger steffens on may 10th 1987,tyrone downie referring to him as the upsetters drummer who played on"black cinderella"by erroll dunkley.roger mentioned that he was living in the bay area.can someone also confirm whether he is alive or dead?

He "dissapeared" from the music radar around 75.
Best drummer from the One Drop era IMO. Sometimes people confuse him with Carlie.
Youth Professionals, Augustus Pablo, Inner Circle, Upsetters, etc...

I think that´s Calvin Mckenzie.
Tin Legs played with I.Circle before that, around 74, and "dissapeared" from the scene....he must be the most unknown / underrated musician in Reggae history, ( considering his contribution ). I've never seen an interview or any detailed reference about his work.
Absolutely amazing drummer but nobody knows anything about him....I asked musicians but nobody seems to know why he disappeared from the scene around 75....?

I enquired about him to many JA musicians......
Pablo told me that he was the main drummer on "King Tubby Meets Rockers Uptown" and "This Is Augustus Pablo".
Even thought he wasn´t credited (Carlie was)
Personally I find TinLegs style more free and creative than Carly's.Carly had a very unique tuning, very distinctive. Great drummer, but not as creative as him.

My pal Mikey Chung told me that Tin Leggs was the first drummer in the Now Generation band and always said he had pioneered the tight timbale like snare sound that Carly Barrett popularized. I live in the Bay Area and have asked around about him but it seems that he may have passed away!

anyway,in the 6th bob marley annual hosted by roger steffens in the "reggae beat"program he was allegedly living in the bay area according to roger steffens.indeed he was recognizable by his sharp and tight snare as identifiable in"this is augustus pablo" and probably in"blackboard jungle"too.to say he is more innovative than carly would be a very shaky ground iam reluctant to tread on.but sure he had his trademark.it even seems clearer that he performed on"word of my mouth"by the gatherers as he was the first drummer of the upsetters before carly barrett.

Inyaki, also before Mikey Boo in the Now Gen was a drummer named Martin Sinclair. He was on some of the sessions but Mikey Boo ultimately wound up becoming the Now Gen drummer because Martin didn't want to quit his day job!
