More Scratch legends (myths?)

Post by Funky Punk »

Does anyone know which of Lee Perry's productions featured recordings from a microphone buried beneath a palm tree, which the *drummer-du-jour* then beat out a rhythm with a mallet upon? If that actually happened, that is.

Also, did he *really* once set up a drum kit in the middle of a duck pond, then order the drummer into the water as he stood at the edge, holding the drum mic?

Lots of thanks to you Mick!!
Great website, great podcasts!
Really appreciate your spreading of Scratch knowledge!

While I´m here: what is different in the mix of Disco Devil on "Turn And Fire" compared to the regular mix?

@blackarkrock:

The Disco Devil in "Turn And Fire" compilation is more rawer mix. It doesn't have the heavy dose of delay. This mix is the same as in dutch "Black Art" 12" inch.

The one with heavy dose of delay can be found from JA "Upsetter" 12" inch. The Jamaican is the longest mix and in the end theres Prince Jazzbo toasting...

Thanks Visitor!
So,
UK Trojan (re) 12" = JA Upsetter 12",
and,
Dutch Black Art 12" = Dutch "Turn And Fire" LP version

What about on CD? (Haven´t got this track on CD)

three parts: first is max romeo chase the devil,
then is either dub version or instrumental with a lot of full experience (i think it is) vocals. finally there is a snatch of jazzbo doing croaking lizard. dont know if they were meant to be together or if they were put together for the 12" release.

one thing ive always wondered about: croaking lizard is one of my all time favorite tracks but it sounds like a dub version...is there a full vocal version out there somewhere? i assume not...ive asked this many times to many people and the answer has never been "oh yeah i got it".

one love

@jb welda:

yes that is true only the JA mix has three parts. The third part lasts about a minute. The full length "Croaking lizard" tune is found from the "Super Ape" album (this mix has some of the lyrics dubbed out)...

It would be interesting if there would be original mixes of "Croaking Lizard" and "Black Vest" without the dubbed out Prince Jazzbo lyrics.
