Ites,
On this forum, we often talk about st croix's reggae, and I really agree it is an essential place for roots music today. But I would add Hawaii as a deep source of roots reggae. I discovered on myspace a band called Ooklah the moc which is really excellent, and there seem to be hundreeds of reggae bands out there like Humble soul (which is also very good) or Inna Vision.
At least have a look to myspace and listen to the killer sounds of Ooklah the moc

Re: reggae from Hawaii
Yah....I've seen Ooklah a couple times in San Diego. My favorite pure reggae band in hawaii.I like their dub style..believe the Scientist help produce pick pocket from what I read awhile back..not sure. That was the first song that I've heard from them when I was in Maui years back.
The new album is alright...Koko sounds like Horace Andy at times. I prefer Ras Bird style and voice.

Reggae music is huge in Hawaii! Irie Souls, Ionz, Inna Vision, Isouljahs, Most High, Ooklah the Moc, and Dubkonscious are massive...but dont stop in the pacific ocean. Reggae is growing all over the world - Japan, Switzerland, Germany, and of course FRANCE!
Check for Wareika Hills from France...Massive!
