Tosh' Reggae Influence

Reggae has really helped pave the way for new genres of music (IE: Ska, Dub Step, Hip Hop, rock, etc) and Peter Tosh was really a forerunner in spreading Reggae influence to new communities (esp. being on Rolling Stone Records)

his most influential song has to be Johnny B Goode..because due to time traveling it became one of thwe first rock and roll songs 30 years earleir..


afterall, it became a big hit for Chuck Berry, after Marty McFly introduced it to Chuck's nephew whn he went back in time and playe a rock and roll version of this Peter Tsh song on his parents prom dance....

Peter Tosh is am man who is totaly underrated when compared to Bob Marley but the funny thing is i like Peter Tosh a lot more than Uncle Bob. I guess because he reminds me more of his mentor Joe Higgs even if he did try to steal some of Joe's music with Stepping Razor from what i have read he tried to claim that he wrote it. Funny thing to write a song about being a dangerous short man when you consider how tall Peter was. But Kate is correct if a little niave about peter's influence in the late seventies early eighties on reggae rock cross over music with his time playing around with the stones.

there are things that i like about peter..like the more i dont give a fuck attitude, and he seemed a little bit more unsatisfied, that makes him a little bit a sad figure..he felt like he was not noticed like bob, and that had a huge impact on his character.

there is one thing that i really do not like.he was absolutely jealouse about bob marleys success..nobody cant tell that it wasnt like that. even if he himself says that he didnt have no problem with bob. i dont believe..because every time you hear him talking bout bob..its like bob marley has more money, bob marleys reggae is not true reggae...what about you peter?? songs like buk in ham palace and nothing but love doesnt seem so much reggae to me...or the song dont look back with mick jagger...

i do not want to diss peter..i actually think he has some beautiful songs. but i would have like to see him more focussing on his true talent instead trying to have the same success like bob.

I agree with Julian….its clear on the Stepping Razor documentary that when Bob died Peter saw it as more of an opportunity for him to step into the limelight rather than upset at the loss of a great artist and friend..

I read an article about beverly kelso...she had nothing good to say about bob and bunny..she liked peter a little bit more...but at the end she said all of them were too selfish...We have to accept, that these three were no angels (or are no angels because bunny is still alive) i guess thats what happens when success enters your life. None of are noble characters. For example there are things about bob too, that he acted absolutley wrong. I know Rita is no angel and she likes money, but the way he treated her wasnt very gentleman-like. and the way he handled Don Taylor was also a very rough way, even if don was stealing him. or the way he forced to get his music played in the jamaican radio. you can say he had to do it like that, because this is the only way that the stations would play his political music..but still I dont think this is justice..Singing about Justice, One Love and not actin upon it, is a kind of hypocritical. I do not say that they were hypocrites but I think they focussed more on their music than on the true message of justice and peace..You cant sing about justice and beat people up for not playing your music. You cant sing about respectin woman rights and treat your own wife like a servant. You have to read the book by rita marley. it is very interesting what she had to go through with bob.

Just like Julian I do not want to diss none of these reggae singers. But celebrating them like heroes is a little bit silly. They were great singers with some shortcomings in their upright moral character. Just like Beverly Kelso mentioned that she felt so sad to see Junior Braithwhaite with not even some good pair of shoes.She was asking herself how could someone like Bunny not try to help him out.

So Reggae is not a Music that is free from these problems. Meaning Jealousy, Arrogancy and even Greed.

don`t believe every story you read, especially Rita´s blah. Bob made her a wealthy mummy. She would definately have suffered a lot more without him as a ghetto girl.
