Those CD's are CD-R's though. Right?

Re: Jackie Mittoo - Stepping Tiger
There's a Canadian pressing of Ayatollah b/w Mash Down Babylon 12", never seen the Russion Satelite on anything but this LP.ras andejo wrote:This is probably Jackie's rarest album. Released in tiny numbers, with no artwork, as a private project of Jackie's. The album contains (as many do) tunes from various sessions but all mixed specially for this release in a dense, dubby style. There's not much information available on the LP itself, although one track made it out on a US 12inch on the Nefertiti label ('Ayatollah' or aka 'Russian Satelite') with 'Mash Down Babylon' on the flipside. Production credits are limited to what's on the label 'Jackie Mittoo'.
Rare and great album!

I wouldn't say it's a CDR Kalcidis - more a small scale semi-professional type release. The sound quality is excellent.

I was more thinking of the actual manufacturing. The sound quality I do not doubt is excellent - as is the packaging. I'm however uncertain of buying them due the CD's being CD-R's from what I've understood. But they are not? That would change a lot for me.

Ah - I see. Technically, I think you would call them CDRs then. I checked and the seller even says as much:

Hi Kalcidis, these CD's are indeed kind of CD-R's, but they are pressed up in fairly small numbers (50 pcs per title) and with nice handcrafted original album covers, track listings, musicians listed and so on. What makes these items extraordinary is the fact that a lot of extra tracks are included such as rare discomixes, jamaican versions, uk versions, 12 inches and so on. And again, the sound quality is perfect! You can't compare them to the CD-R's which are listed on EB for example.kalcidis wrote:Those CD's are CD-R's though. Right?

I'm not taking a stab at these records. I think they look great and probably sound even better. My problem is only that I don't really trust a CD-R. I don't want to buy a record and in 20 years when I check it again it's unplayable.

This is exactly the reason why I put a copy of every CD, CD-R and even vinyl rip's on multi-terrabyte-mirrored-hard-drives
