Karl Pitterson is another underrated engineer. i really like his dub of "Wolverton Mountain" (Roman Stewart)... that was done in 1973 at TI, really nice early dub off of 8 track.Siegi wrote:Nice said Horizon Crawler As the engineers mentioned above more or less had(eventually)a homebasis studio (and producer) I would also add engineers like Sid Bucknor, a cousin on Coxsone Dodd's father's side, and Karl Pitterson, those two worked in many different studios and with a bunch of producers. Two respected engineers, although I think Sid Bucknor engineered allot more. Also in the 7 inch B side business.
One question I used to think that Coxsone Dodd didnt touch a mixing desk in his life and thought I also read so about it. But in forums sometimes pops up he did do some engineering. Is there a link of an interview or a name of a book that I missed, please let me know. Would be interesting to read.
Dodd did do some engineering before and after Sylvan Morris - and apparently Larry Marshall did a little bit too, but Dodd mixed a lot, if not all, of the Dub Specialist stuff which is why it's technically unremarkable at best. Morris started at Studio 1 in 1968 and left sometime in 1972... don't know if he did stuff here and there for Dodd after that, though.
i love Morris' dub work on Bunny Wailer's "Dub Dsco", i think that was done at Aquarius.
