Didn't think I'd like it when I read about it, but when I finally listened to Sinead O'Connor's "Jah No Dead" (and quite a lot of her Throw Down Your Arms album w/ Sly&Robbie) I enjoyed it immensely. "Untold Stories" is also a surprisingly decent track.

Tin whistles/bagpipes in punk-and-related = evil. Usually happens when someone from the band discovers that they had an Irish ancestor 100+ years ago...

you know, part of me agrees. i think it's the fact that Joe Strummer died before the album was completed in its entirety, and Cash followed not long afterwards. this is what makes the song very poignant to me. it's not the most musically perfect recording in either artists' history but it's touching when you know the backstory.

hahaha! i don't know what to make of that recording. i think it could have done without the irish instruments. it sounds like the pogues featuring ziggy marley!

yeah, i never got the whole Boston/Irish connection, i think i'm more Irish than most of these Celtic punks yet i don't feel compelled to add tin whistles and bagpipes (which aren't even irish) to every song i write. lol

I didn't know Sinead O'Connor had covered Jah No Dead... Shows how in touch I am!
