A lot of Studio One tunes were remixed with syn drums - what was that about?
I think Black Uhuru's 'Chill Out' LP was probably the high-(or low)-point of Sly's use of the medium.

The only thing I can think of (and this really is clutching at straws) is that they had to put them on as many tracks as possible to justify the cost of buying them in the first place!
I did say I was clutching at straws here!

Re: Sly selling out "post 80". Are you kidding? Sly & Robbie created some wicked, innovative, legendary riddims in the eighties that we must all be thankful for. Like "Baltimore", and "Heart Made of Stone", or Sugar Minott's "Devil Pickney".

I have to confess I love those syndrums, especially Synare used in the late 70's. Not so keen on those later inventions like Linn drums, or other drum emulators.

sly and robbie definately sold out in 80's, of course they had some great tracks in that time recording like 200 songs a year,but check this album out :"language barrier"

I may be wrong but I seem to remember Raiders of the Lost Dub being dreadful on account of synth drums.

Whats the Sly and Robbie Taxi Sound like ? I know its on Auralux and they have had some good releases.
Trouble is when the date says 198x and your not familiar with all the tracks you dont know how far across the 80`s it extends.
Is it all pre digital etc.
