Excuse me for the delay in replying. By "ringing/peal" I meant the frequency between every hit in the hi-hat and the power of the hit. I don't know if I'm using the right words to explain it, but anyway, let me ask you, what do you mean by triplets? Do you mean the way the drummer is playing the hi-hat in ruthland close during the first 55 seconds of the song? Here's the link

Between 00:55-01:58 the dummer is playing in a more relaxed mood, Young Generation Dub-like, having more room to introduce rolls, snare-bass drum combinations, but you see how he just plays a very basic bass drum-crash set between 01:19-01:23, 01:33-01:35 and 01:50-01:53. I have the feeling that this interval in ruthland close would be more filled if it's the same drummer playing in both tracks. By the way, we've talked about the drummer in young generation dub, but, who do you think it could be the bass player in that tune? Aston Barrett? All the best.

Yeah, i hadn't listened to Ruthland in a while before i posted that, after listening to it recently i realized he isnt hitting triplets the whole way through just in the beginning for a while. And yes that is what i meant. The first part of the song is all triplets, done in the same way as 1:24 and 2:202 mark here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yVe3S4CX ... PSHAQGF9Pw its just slower in Ruthland and constant in the beginning.

Unless they asked the drummer to chill for a while and not be so busy. To me the style is the same on the two tracks, it sounds like the same drummer. From the hi hat styles, to even the cymbal crashes and the few kick snare mix ups that exist in Ruthland. A lack of playing or busyness in certain parts to me doesn't mean much, because everything he does do sounds like the same drummer in Young Generation. Iv been told plenty of time by musicians iv worked with "dont be so busy on this one" or "just keep the rhythm going on this part"

I would count Carly out for the simple fact that he never does play that style hi hat on any Wailers tune. I understand that you say it may have been a transition from the old style to a Positive Vibration type feel, but if that was the case, i would think he would have used it more. Its too killer a hi hat style not to use. Especially as much as Carly used the same patterns all the time. I don't have time to think of all Carly's hi hat styles but you know what im saying. Running Away/Crazy Baldheads, Stop them Jah/Stir it Up, Positive Vibration/The Heathen. He always used certain patterns on the hi-hat. I can't imagine Carly playing the hi-hat pattern on Ruthland Close and Young Generation Dub which are the same and never using it in any Wailers tune.

The bass player i have no idea. I dont play bass and have never picked apart the different styles. I stick to drums, but its one hell of a bass line.
