Perry wasn't really rasta ( for example: he never had any dreads )
In his period at the black ark, he was surrounded by rasta people, so I guess that had a great influence on him, and his music.
In several interviews he claims to be a rasta, but he also claims to be a baldhead, god, buddah, allah, inventor of the American Dollar etc.
Got my point ?

I would say that Lee Perry was a true Rastafarian b4 he lost it. Rastafari has nothing to do with dreading up the hair but the message you carry in your heart. If a sound dance is a rastafarian's church well then Perry's music during the Black ark days were its gospel choir

According to "People Funny Boy" Lee Perry became a Rasta after seeing Haile Selassie when he visited Jamaica. It appears from what he says he became a Rasta because he felt he looked exactly like Haile Selassie.
Annoyingly I don't have the book here so can't quote from it.

That doesn't make any sense. I've never heard of a baldhead saying 'I'm a rasta' , or calling himself a rasta.

Yeh not having dreadlocks doesn't mean your not a rasta alot of people seem to think u need dreads to be a rasta, if Lee Perry says he was a Rasta then thats good enough for me....

something physical like a piece of hair does not make a person what he is.
True the Drealocks have great significance to some rastas as it's what is natural and how the hair naturally grows and to some Rasta they are very significant and are of great importance as it symbolizes naturality, but for some rasta's it's not convenient or just through choice, same as smoking herb, u don't have to smoke the herb to be a rasta but lots do. Rastafari is in the heart, a way of life. There are so many people wearing Dreadlocks these days who have nothing to do with rastafari yet instantly people seem to think a blackman with dreadlocks is a Rasta, i suppose u could call it a prejudice in people these days.
By the way judge dread, why is Lee Perry an imposter? be interested to here your answer on this......
