Best of Studio One Vol 4 ("original" of Pirates' Choice) was decent quality so maybe the pirates can do us a favour! Coxsone issued Love Me Forever and Live Loving via Peckings in the UK I think. A proper reissue of Presenting the Gladiators which had all the original tracks and didn't repeat a lot of them would be great...

I've been wondering a lot about EB. I can understand that they had to do what they did to survive (I'm surprised they stayed afloat for as long as they did with an almost exclusively reggae focus), but they were losing key catalogs even before the name change. I used to check their website almost daily looking for cool repress goodies like Studio One lps and 45s. Then the incident with Burning Spear, the exit of Pressure Sounds...and eventually the complete collapse of all Studio One product. The only place I could find the last S1 45s was from Honest Jons or eBay.

I digress. I still check up on EB but it's not as crucial as it once was. I guess I've changed my buying habits as well...

Ernie B's get a lot of criticism for the changes, but my answer to that is always that they do what they have to do to survive, and that there will still be more Reggae for sale there than if they go out of business completey, right?

With Burning Spear the reason was the controvery he caused, and with Pressure Sounds (and maybe other UK/EU labesl) the reason is simply economical the way I understand it. But when it comes to US releases, like these Yep Roc, I don't understand what the reason for not stocking them would be, maybe they are just late (another common critique).

It is a shame about the Studio One stuff though, because that was the one place where they could be easily found, they always had plenty of titles in stock that I never saw anywhere else. I am thinking if maybe Studio One are not distributing these anymore if they have made a deal for many of the same titles to be reissued by Yep Roc?

Oh yeah...no fault on EBreggae...they still offer more Jamaican music than most. The market place has changed and they saw a way to satisfy a need in the vinyl community which at this point is all over the map.

I love all types of music. It just used to be too cool to grab some Studio One repress from EB. Hey, I've also bought a Sabbath record from them as well. Good prices esp if you are ordering a lot of vinyl.
