well i know i'm not the only one that writes on vinyl, but i really didn't support that idea when i first started collecting during hi-school dayz. but getting involved in the soundsystem bizznizz i actually started doing it then b/c of my records mixed in with the other guyz selectionz, but as time went on i gotten used to it till now. nu-century nu-tingz. but you're right it does de-value the quality of the record. but if it's a record on my wantz list i'm after WOL/LD/ETC i'll take it, i'm not an e-bay buyer but labels or cover sleeves don't play the records. i check fi quality not quantity.

I & I prefer records with writing on the label. it means they have a story, they've been played, enjoyed...
mint copies have another story : often owned by baldheads trying to make money...

This baldhead is spending ALL his money buying reggae records.

I don't sell them.

I care for them, clean them properly and store them well and keep them fresh - not to make any money - but so they will give me pleasure for a long long time.

I buy them to play them.

And I play them to anyone who will listen. (check out my radio feed!)

Sharing the music is my greatest pleasure.

My experience is that if there's writing anywhere then it usually means the wax is also beaten up, not properly cared for.

However, I suspect that in hundreds of years time (if society hasn't dashed itself away on the rock of greed) writing on labels will be sought after because of the historical value.

With white labels, or wrongly titled printed labels I would always prefer to write or print the correct info on the label.

Jamaican music is complicated enough without having wrong titles or no titles on records.

Fairly interesting to see the various thoughts on the subject, im pretty impartial, to me it doesnt matter that much either way.
I find things like writing on the labels to tell a story, especially when you find a few records has the same name or whatever on it.
I must admit that i have written a little on some, only represses because me and another dj, work together and we have a lot fo the same records so it helps to identify each others records. He simply puts a D with a circle around it.
Of course there are instances where writing can be very irritating, when its overdone to the extent where you have no idea what your about to play because the name, track and everything else is hidden by drawings or whatever.

Anyway thanks for your responces on this one, quite interesting to see the diversity.

Peace & Love.
