Wareika - Thanks! I'll check my copies when I get home, but I am pretty sure I have it on Micron and Conflict. But I will confirm later and play test them too!

Wareika> I have a copy of Mr Isaacs is on Cash and Carry, I wonder if it is the same mix as the others?

I listened to Out Deh this morning on African Museum, recently arrived. I thought maybe it also sounded like a different mix to the Island mix but I need to play them back to back to be sure.

Leggo, check the matrix number for the Micron one. There are perhaps two diff pressing one with a MICCAN number and one with Conflict number. Actually I saw several presses on Micron and some has the Conflict catalogue number printed on the label wheras most of Miceon has a MICCAN cat # printed.

Very sory, I can't help you on the Mr Isaacs LP. I got it on DEB from UK. I think there are several different pressing on Cash & Carry and I think there was 2 diff set of stamper built (with diff matrix numbers). I have to check, I have the info somewhere. There is also a press on the Earthquake label which use on of the two Cash & Carry stampers (also from top of my head).

Same for Out deh, one of the Greg's LPs I still miss. Not the hardest to find tho'...

Later on I will publish all the relevant matrix numbers in this thread. Keep looking.

Wareika, I would love to spend time with you probing that great reggae mind of yours. I am humbled by your deep rooted knowledge of this subject.

Thanks for all your valuable insight and contributions to this website.

LOL Leggo, I have no "deep rooted knowledge" but a solid trainspoter disease. It appeared when I started collect original LP and I didn't recover so far...

BTW I searched and found this:

Some Cash & Carry presses without matrix numbers hetched apparently (by far the more current issue) and others with DSR 4053 A / DSR 4054 B which is the same mat# as the one on Earthquake label

Wareika, I share that disease, I have a Red Green and Gold anorak...

I am currently playing the Echo label version of Extra Classic. I DON'T have it on Conflict after all :(

It isn't great sound. Rather flat sounding and some distortion on the treble. And it isn't to do with record wear because this copy is STONE MINT!

Matrix: STLP - 1003 - A / B LYN 899* - 1

(the * is a scribbled out number)

Now for the Micron Copy:

MICCAN 0014 A / B TLC

This has a much warmer sound. More bass (my window frames are now rattling, a good sign!), more depth, less distortion on the treble - despite being EX to EX- condition.

Now for the Mr Isaacs:

On Vista
Matrix: STLP 1014 A1 - B2 MPO

On Cash And Carry:

NO MATRIX!

Artwork like this but BLACK AND WHITE INK ONLY!

Now

Out Deh

African Museum - Red label

Matrix:
DSR 1588 A / B Gregory Isaacs - The Gentle Genius

(what a cool matrix message!)

Island - Blue 'Night and Day' labels

Matrix:
ILPS 9748 A-2U-1-1 11 JONZ
ILPS 9748 B -1U-1-1 1' SOUND-LINK

Now to play test them...

So far I can't detect a different mix (just on Private Secretary). But the African Museum copy has a slightly flat sound, bad eq. The Island copy is much brighter in sound.

I am guessing that the Island and AM pressings were made and distributed around the same time. With the normal Island get the world, the rest to the artists' own label for JA only (as with Tuff Gong and Marley). The AM jacket has ILPS 9748 on it.

Mr Cop

No wonder this track is so good. Gregory Isaacs and Lee Perry together! Two (flawed) geniuses on one track

Agree with extra Classic as a must have although instead of "Rasta Business" I wish they had put "Thief A Man" on it which I think is a much better tune on that rhythm.

My other essential would be "The Sensational Gregory Isaacs" (Not Sensational & Extra Classic which has shortened tracks) because it has a couple of extended cuts including a great 6.5 minute mix of "Be Yourself" (aka African Woman)in which the dub section is different to the cut on the African museum 10".
