I didn't say it wasn't a great LP, just that I think some others are better. So not his greatest. But maybe I need to listen to it again in the light of these comments, as it's been very long a while since I span that one.

I actually think his 80s stuff totally ROCKS. Like Out Deh, Private Beach Party and Night Nurse.

There are some totally wicked 10 and 12 inch 45 versions from that era.

And even when he did it digital, with Music Works, the stuff is superb. He was one of the few artists that still sounded good when backed by a drum machine. Red Rose For Gregory is still one of my all-time favourite Gregory LPs and again, there are som brilliant disco versions.

But as his teeth fell out and his bad habits got badder, his music seemed to slip.

From his earlier stuff:

'Mr Isaacs' is OUTSTANDING.

'Soon Forward' rocks.

There are many, many more.

As I remember the sequence was:

Lonely Lover
More Gregory
Night Nurse
Out Deh
Private Beach Party (?)

Night Nurse was a strong album, but Out Deh was very 'blank', unmoving if you like - neither tunes, rhythms or vocals moved me is what I mean - in hindsight the drugs must have had an effect around that time.

After Out Deh I gave up.

Out Deh has killer tracks like 'Private Secretary' on it, and 'Love me with feeling'.

But I would agree, that this is not the best of his output from that era.

But if you haven't heard Red Rose for Gregory, I suggest you cop a listen. It's possibly the last really good LP he made.

Teachers Plight - awesome
Rumours - Totally massive - and the 12" version even more so.
Slow Down - superb
Rough Neck - great track
Mind Yu Dis - I love this track and want to sing it to some of the chavs (rude boys) that hang around my city thinking they are so hard. Agin, the 12" version is a killa!

Enjoyable reading, got me curious and dug out some Gregory for a listen, love Mr Isaacs and Extra Classic.
You may already know this but for what it is worth there was a double album realeased on PRE (PRE D10) which contained both the Lonely Lover & More Gregory albums.

Yes Collie, you are right.

Gregory Isaacs - Lover's Rock - PRE D 10

It sells for pennies on eBay.

It's a strange world...

And for those that love Mr Isaacs, you have to check the dub version, Leggo Dub.

I picked up for 3 dollars US, HARD CORE 12" AND also SET ME FREE...I am a HUGE fan. I think I have seen him the most of any artist live.
In Jamaica the sets are a mere 20 minutes...In the USA, you get a full hour now...last time I saw him he had gained some weight and was sounding oh so sweeet...LAAAAAAAWD...hehehe...
BTW, Since I am posting from the US, I have to type in US Dollars as the dollar sign comes up in english pounds sign....too funny...glad I caught that one..what is the equivalentof 3 dollars US in UK pounds?
