well here's my trick...
the tracklist you've got to give to the taxman, fill it with artists and labels you know very well so you're sure they will get some (minimal) reward... even if you don't play these artists tunes!

The licence you pay to play tunes in public, dont go to the artist anyway.
Its like what we used to do on pirate radio, have a little jingle over some part of the tune whilst playing.

Most of the radio or internet radio just plays a tune straight through from the start to the end of thr record, cd. ect, so you can just tape it and not buy the record.

Its how we used to promote a record coming out so you could not just record it flat and it would encourage people to buy the record.
Its like when a sound system plays out your never going to get the recording like its a file share of whatever format.
Thats whats killing the industry and the artists who now need a second job to fund their music bizz runnings thats now turned into a hobby.
peace

well, we've gone on to another topic now it appears.

@Leggo - as recently revealed, all of those lawsuits, settlements (many, many apparently) and convictions (very few) by the RIAA in this country (U Arse of A) have not resulted in remuneration for the artists. Like, uh they forgot to pay or whatever. These organizations do not protect the artists. They protect the industry needs - the bottom line, profit margins. Absolutely, form an organization that does actually protect artist but the RIAA and its global evil quintuplets do not. I'll be happy to support you on this end, but I think it will be a thankless and fruitless job. I call for higher download file quality standards from paysites and easier access to them, no DRM. Buy and share is what I say. Buy direct and share with your friends. Those who like it will want to support the artist. In theory.

I am no lawyer, but I think the way that it has worked for years with JA artists is they got paid for the session or the album and that was it. Copyright in JA did not extend rights to the artists as the artists had agreed at some point to the producer's/labels requirements (or copyright basically did not exist). In turn producers who released their material aforeign made deals that were one off payment for singles and albums released in Europe US etc. and thus handed over their material into a system that could virtually perpetually exploit the music without ever compensating either artist or producer - wrong? Colonial - fuckin' right)
I can see no sense in you paying a license fee of any sort of collection agency if you are playing roots out of JA. Not a one of those artists alive would get a penny and you'd be supporting a corrupt and hopefully dying system of exploitation.
If you are playing major label stuff they probably wouldn't ever find out - but check RIAA Radar. Look it up. I don't think I have the link at hand...tells you what labels are not 'protected' by those fuckers - and if it actually work so that you found a label you could support, you could ask them how they would like to be paid their royalties. They might just say that is great that you play their records. It is a good ad.

Makes you think, doesn't it?

Wow i wrote this thread last year july! And bredrin are still commenting here(tu)

I ended up using a cassette deck and transferred my old school reggae cassette`s to disc via a cd audio recorder with jack in-put and out-put connections.I mon ended up recording all my tunes to disc`s and ripping them in WAV. format for full audio quality.

All`s cool now,
Peace out!
