For early work I would include Doctor Dick - King Perry - a classic ska number. You should also include some other early classics - Tidal Wave or Night Doctor from the 1969 album The Upsetter.
going into the 70's Sipreano from The Upsetter Collection.
Also Better Days - Carlton and the Shoes and Words of My Mouth - The Gatherers from that collection.
Don't forget Cool Rockers and Lion - from Black Ark in Dub.
And you should include Iron Gate from Cloak and Dagger.

oh yes monkey - if The Heptones aren't too well known for the rule mentioned earlier in the thread, Crying Over You is an excellent choice - superb track from a superb album!

i would recommend representing these albums:
war ina babylon - max romeo
party time - heptones
musical bones - vin gordon + the upsetters
heart of the congos - the congos
police and thieves - junior murvin
super ape - the upsetters
to be a lover - george faith
hurt so good - susan cadogan
beat down babylon - junior byles
kung fu meets the dragon - the upsetters
blackboard jungle dub - the upsetters
the list could go on and on. "arkology" is of course a great place to start. the heartbeat "upsetter shop" series is also a great resource.
and i have to point out a scratch-produced song that i have really been playing a lot lately: "life is not easy" by the meditations.
