I had and still have the same impression as you, but I've always loved the song "96 Degrees in the Shade". I have had the chance to see them live in California in the early 1990s and in Paris in 1996 and they did put on a lively show. Live reggae is hard to beat, even if it's not a favorite band.

I recomend the early recordings.maybe they can change your mind.Don't leave them.

their first albums are very good, not 100% roots indeed but very intelligent music. And Third World Man performed live is roots to the bone, to me.

I'm in the "leave them" category. I have a couple of their "better" albums and I never listen to them.

The ambassadors of Reggae??? Aside from their own self-proclamation, how do you guys figure that?

Third World is a funny group. When they're good, they're REAL good, but when they're bad, they're REAL cheesy!

I could put together a fantastic best-of comp of theirs with about 15 tunes (most coming from "96 In The Shade" & "Journey to Addis"), the rest is pretty crappy if you ask me.

one thing fe sure:

imho nearly everything produced after 1982 is shit.
and that not only applies to Third World.
i think the mid 80s were the most boring period in reggae ever. roots radics became xtra lame, no good enginners around anymore (scientist went into obscurity at that time) and so on .........

(soljie for example - what a boring mix style, but maybe it's not his fault because the riddims were played so slow & boring, too)

if i hear today's musicians like mafia&fluxi it sounds all so cheap and uninspired, sorry. they play the 999th do-over of classic riddims - who needs that shit ?

and today it has become ragga/hiphop and has nothing to do with the crucial reggae we once loved.

I agree, Post 85 is when it bored off imo Informer.

"Try Jah Love" is the most non-rasta tune ever... despite the song-title.......

More soul-pop than reggae!

I put them as the uk polished like steel pulse,aswad,black slate,misty roots..dont really like it but some crucial tunes released and all good live.
