Going back to "The Best is Lose", it sounds like it was based on the rhythm that was used for "Good Will Survive", Horace Andy on Wackies or "Come to Me", Jay Tees on Studio 1, or you could just about imagine singing "Bongo Niah" over it. The CD that I have it on says it was produced at the Black Ark in the mid 80s by Phil Pratt, I can believe Phil Pratt but at the Black Ark doesn't sound very likely.

Wasn't the Black Ark Studio burnt down in 1983?

That's right - but it gives the record company the excuse to bring in a spurious reference to Scratch on the sleeve!

6anbatte: those 2 records you listed are BOTH in constant rotation, Yabby You is one of my very favorite artists! and mix that with King Tubby, now THAT'S a dread combination!
jc_everton:i go thru the same process you do - find the dub, then obsess about the original until i find it! this forum and it's wonderful users have helped so much in my quest!
