Hi 6anbatte
I'll have another look at the sleeve tonight to see if Bobby Powell is listed... Could be a Yabby You productions weekend if I manage to find Peace Conference, Kingston Pretty, Z90, Armagideon Man...
and Conquering Lion and Chant Down Babylon Kingdom as well.
Regards
Jesco77

Hi Jesco77
Please let me know what you find. Mind you, I am pretty sure I read that Bobby had left by then.
Definitely will be putting on some Yabby You tonight.
Have a good weekend.

Jesco 77,
Yes great tune for sure. It is amazing how strong roots tunes from the 70s get forgotten while the DJ tunes cut over them live on.
When you say you had the 7" did you mean Chalice Specialist or Peace Conference or both? If it was Chalice Specialist I assume it had the version on the flip and that it wasn't ruined by odd mixing as is the case with Peace Conference version?
Regards
Rob

Hi Rob, sorry, off-line for a while. I wasn't being very clear- it's the Peace Conference/Trinity single that I have. I assume you're right that Chalice Specialist also came ot on a 7" but I've never seen it. Having said that I like the stop-start mixing on it, just adds to the charm I think. And as I say it was one of the first I bought so it inspired me to do home-made dubbing on my old hi-fi amp and dropping the bass right down, cranking up the volume so it's all treble then pressing the filter cut button to bring the bass back in... the things you can do with an old Quad amp!

Hi Jesco 77,
Yes, that for me is one of the joys of Reggae - you can play about with it. Sounds just like the Sound Systems, start off all high end, then hit the button and the bass thumps in. It is all a matter of choice but I like my records thumped out at high watts with the bass turned up. I'm fairly sure that a lot of Reggae was recoreded with Sound Systems in mind and they certainly didn't go for the pure sound reproduction, no filters approach.
When I've had a chance to go through my magazines I'll let you know if I find Chalice Specialist listed as a 7".
I was going to start looking in the 1977 editions on the basis that Trinity's vocals mention the Peace Conference was signed in early 1978 so I assumed his DJ cut was that year but the Chalice vocal cut might have been the end of the previous year. Oddly the label on my 7" of Peace Conference says 1977 which looks wrong to me because that would mean he was singing about an event that hadn't yet happened?
Is your copy of Jah Jah Way album dated 1980 like the one in the Archives or is there an earlier JA press?
Regards
Rob

Hi Rob
My copy of Peace Conference says 1977 as well, but I think so do all the others I have on the Yabby You label!
Jah Jah Way- I have the Island press listed in the Archives, I think it was the original as it was a sort of compilation album of Grove records and other issues.
@6anbatte, no mention of Bobby Powell on my copy.

Hi Jesco77
Thanks for that. Looks like it's Yabby, Alric and Dada then.

Jesco,
I've now picked up the 7". It is under a slightly different name:
Sipping I & I Chalice, Vivian Jackson & The Prophets
Prophets label 1976 PHT 237A/Version PHT 237B. I think it is a UK press.
As you'd expect, the mix is slightly different to the album track. There are no horns which must have been overdubbed on to the album track. Great tune!
Regards
Rob

Hi Rob - glad you tracked down a copy, let me know if you find another one!
I like those tunes where you get a pre-release cut and a more worked on album cut.
