Sadly Spy, this is a big problem and I try to deal only with sellers I know and trust.

But another problem is over grading - which I consider a type of theft.

Again, I try to deal with sellers who I either know grade accurately and properly, or with sellers who's over grading is at least consistent so I compensate for it!

The problem is, as I have discovered myself, that if you grade properly, you're stuff looks bad up against all these over graders.

It's a jungle out there...

Frequently i find auctions with the word "listen" in them go for higher as i think certain people only buy tunes they can listen to first.
I find that listening to these tunes is useful for me to find tunes i didnt know about before, i then write them down and rate them on my own preferences so when they come up again i will know how much i like those tunes.

This one went for a nice stack of cash: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... :IT&ih=015

Sounds like a killer though!

The only way I can think of to stop the annoying occurences of bidding up by acquintances of the seller is to collect the evidence and send it to the e-bay security team.

If you are in a two horse race with someone who you believe is a bogus bidder, stop bidding at a certain point. If the bogus bidder appears to have bought the record, watch the seller's listing to see if the record reappears in the future. It is frustrating not to have the record but then you haven't been defrauded either.

There are enough vinyl buyers on this forum for us to pool knowledge on suspected illegal practices with a view to getting action taken or at least warning others about what to look out for.

Coming back to prices people are prepared to pay, it is an individual thing and people who need one or two records to complete a particular collection will pay way over the odds to be sure of getting a record without taking the risk that it may be months before another copy comes up for sale. As Leggo says, if you wait long enough something will come up eventually.

Also with rare records the first one or two that come up often sell for a high price to people who really want the record right then. Other people see the price achieved and put their copies up for sale and the price starts to drop because the other buyers may not want to pay as much and can afford to wait.

Regards

Rob

Yeah, Rob, those bogus bidders tend to be really really frustrating and disgusting. I really hate that, real bad babylonian ting. Ive sent yesterday an email to musicarchives / bestones telling him that this bidder... http://feedback.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.d ... 0163163826

that is for sure a bogus bidder (look his feedbacks...)is not really appreciated and that we are speaking actually of this on reggae forums... I had (of course) no answer. Maybe that if many people tell him the same, it'll change something...

The guy that bought that seems to spend a lot $$ so like Litelett says, could be bogus.
