I always thought they recorded it in The Ark, because "Scratch" was the producer.
But Studio 17 u say?

As I said, I always thought Lee Perry only produced in his Ark. But Soul Rebel was recorded back in 69-70, right? Maybe the Ark wasnt built yet?

When did he start up the Black Ark anyway?

ok, the ark was built in like 1973, recordings started the year after that
perry recorded the wailers at randy's in those years you mention, when randy's was new
