Yes, it is old. But for a long time, it fell out of use. Maybe because it became a 'good' word with reggae's influence. But now, youths are using the term skankers - usually aimed at dropouts and drug addicts.

So telling someone to "keep on skanking" may not have the desired effect in the UK today!

Talking about skanking, the first song that comes to my mind is Max Romeo - Beardman Feast.
