Did Brent Dowe actually write the lyrics?
I had always thought (not sure why) that the words are from an old 'negro spiritual' (sung by slaves).
Whichever way, I love the words, the tune - which i guess I very first heard while still quite young being sung by Boney M on Top Of The Pops (UK BBC TV show) no less!

I agree, the DJs haven't been exactly falling over themselves to do a tribute to them. Only one DJ friend of mine did a whole hour on Sunday of Brent Dowe and the Melodians tunes. He was always my favourite artist and will remain my favorite.

Respects.... lucky enough to have seen him sing in Bradford in 1993 with the Melodians. Sweet sensation was the one that rocked. Sad, sad news...

Sadly Brent Dowe is no longer here in flesh, but will always be here in spirit & music, although i saw them perform only once at the Alton Ellis Rock Steady Showcase at the Fulham Apollo in the 90's, i have been listening to the song of the Melodians since their Treasure Isle days on Radiofusion down McGregor gully Kingston 2.
R.I.P GREAT ONE, GONE BUT NEVER FORGOTTEN
