After the discussion with Vinny and Stepping Razor i got the vinyl bug and stayed up until about 5 in the morning going through some tunes and could not find anything that
runs at a similar tempo to Weed them out.

If anyone knows of some similar roots digital tunes let me know, maybe i need to start another thread for this one.

I think the closest i could find was Stress by Ini Kamoze and Run down the World by Nitty Gritty.

Help me weed them out

It would be the digi tunes that were coming out at that time late 80`s early 90`s. i dont think imo that tempo lining up to the next tune is that imporotant, and depends if your playing out at a dance or at home or making tapes (old style).at a dance you may want to play a tune with the same tempo but sometimes you may want to play a slower tune cos their all tired from shanking hard.
As for say making a mix tape and you want something close to the tempo of the last one.
One thing that important in reggae records is tempo control on your turntable. at lot of tunes sound better a little faster or slower which where the connection with hip hop sctraches and mix djs who change the tempo of the record to mix another in but if you have not got tempo control it makes it much more harder to blend.
in the end its about what tunes you select that work.

What i meant to say earlier was after playing through a whole heap of digital tunes from the 80's not many seem to have the same feel as Weed Them Out,When i say tempo i meant i can see why this tune works so well in a shaka dance,as supposed to say sleng teng (thats an extreme example).

When the digital revolution hit around 84 everything seemed to speed up and music with feel didn't seem to matter anymore.Weed them out is a digital tune played with feel, almost sounds like a live band playing it.

I have a good amount of the Jammys material from the 80's and as wicked as it was at the time a lot of it has no longevity except the stuff that was played live pre sleng teng. How much digital Jammys tunes do you hear in a roots dance? it's all from the same era but Jammys was the new uptempo exciting music.

I was a sound system selector in the 80's and no way could weed them out be played alongside Hill and Gully or Nowhere better than yard or punany which were all massive tunes in the dancehall at the time.

This is why i beleive Weed Them Out stands out from many digital tunes of that era and why it rewards such big money.

That was what i was trying to say!

I think weed them out can be played in a pre digi roots set thats what makes the tune feel alive.
I make riddim on a roland TR-808 which is analogue and has a feel to it. The early beat boxes hadnt been totally digital at that time and made the tunes alive with feel early jah tubbys, the drum machine had only been around for 2 or 3 years by 1985 and was a new tool in reggae. Also the uk was getting bored with ja rub a dub cos it was to soft for the real roots heads in the uk.
That was a great time for digi roots totally differant from todays roots that is 2 or 4 bars looped and the mp3 and computee music done on computees that all compress the sound and thats the main thing why a digi tune from the mid to late 80`s is so differant than now.
Also it was more musical than stuff today and i dont feel im getting left behind with all these techno bods who program, im a muscian not a computee programer.
The other little kirk on ruddys label was Ghetto people broke. At the time the stuff came out you know its going to stand the test of time and there the tunes that are now going for silly moneys,

Computers nowadays have made music easy for anyone to be able to make it.the problem with this is programming bods are expecting the computer to make the music for them but the music has to come from within.

The people who made all that wicked digital music in the 80's all served their dues as musicians first.

I can live with the lack of quality from compressed sound but can't live with the lack of creativity from lazy programers that want to call themselves musicians because they own a Macbook pro with logic and the latest Sly Dunbar sample cd.
