I met Donald and Lulu on a vacation to Negril sometime between 1975 and 1981. They were going around from cottage to cottage singing their beautiful songs for tips. I bought a tape of their music and played it for years as I loved their voices and their music. It eventually broke but I saved it. Unfortunately I now don't know where I saved the tape.

Their music was, of course Reggae, but Lulu seemed to me to add a touch of early rock and roll from the 1950's and early 1960's,Doo-Wop. I wonder if anyone else felt that influence.

I have not spoken to anyone about them or heard anything until yesterday when it occurred that somewhere on the internet there might be some information. The last posting seem to have been more than 6 years ago, in 2006, which concerns me that no one may see or respond to my posting.

While I am pleasantly surprised to learn that there are others who share this connection to Donald and Lulu, I am equally saddened by the knowledge of Lulu's murder.

I came across the reported Judgment Of The Lords Of The Judicial Committee Of The Privy Council delivered Jan. 27, 2003 which reviewed the earlier decision of the Court of Appeal of Jamaica in which the facts of the murder and investigation are detailed. Being an American lawyer and a former Assistant United States Attorney,I am particularly interested in the Jamaican legal procedures.

Having said all that, I would like to have ( or purchase) a copy of Donald and Lulu's music and would appreciate if anyone can assist me in obtaining a copy or otherwise share information about these two people who have remained in my memory for so many

if you google "Donald and Lulu Wailers blogspot" you'll find links to download the album. The producers wont get paid, nor the artists of course, but you will be able to listen to the album. I would love for this album to be released on CD or even on legal MP3, because it is very pleasant.

I saw it a few years ago in a record shop in my home town, it was only £10

I looked at the album cover and I thought hmmmmm not sure this will be worth £10

So I downloaded a sample to listen to and I thought it would have been a great record without Lulu's vocals.

No offence to Lulu but I just don't think white woman's vocals really work on a reggae song, she sounds more like a female singer with the velvet underground than a reggae singer

Plus as I recall she had some tuning issues or was a bit flat or something I can't quite remember

Needless to say I deleted the samples and didn't buy the record, but it seems it is fairly rare perhaps I should have bought it just to sell it on at a profit....

.... then again that sounds like a lot of work for a few quid

I would have loved to have the instrumentals, because you're right, some of the vocals are awful. But the riddims are fabulous Wailers 1982 style. with great carly drum rolls, super Junior lead guitars... and of course superb bass by Fams

Completly agree, the backing tracks are classic Wailers

taking a tangent here, but imagine if the Wailers had been halfway clever and gone on to be a session band like Sly & Robbie or Roots Radics...

the very few tracks recorded after Bob passed and featuring Fams and Carly like Alpha Blondy, Gilberto Gil, Joe Yamanaka, Donald & Lulu are all fantastic riddims.

They could have been huge, they were such a tight outfit, bit I guess they just kept touring and doing Bob tributes?

Imagine all the dancehall eara singers over Wailers tra cks(assuming thewy started playing like the other session bands of the time)

Barry Brown and the Wailers, Triston Palma and the Wailers. Imagine Don Carlos and the Wailers.........
There are no end of great combinations
